India can be a Sourcing Base
for Africa
K-2004 held between
20-27 Oc tober at Düsseldorf was true to its theme of vision,
innovation and business. The German philosophy was truly in action
i.e. deliver more than you are paid for. In machinery, injection moulding,
extrusion and blow moulding technology of European machinery makers
have improved, focusing on more precision, high output and high technology
in all aspects. Same is the case with ancillaries, dies, moulds, blends
and alloys, with nano-composites usage. It is important to understand
that the Indian industry can bridge gap of growth, as we have the
best entrepreneurs, highly skilled technical manpower and an IT savvy
new generation. With a participation of over 55 countries across the
globe, covering 163,000 sq. mtrs. spread over 17 halls, the 2900 exhibitors
displayed their best during the fair. Visitor count for first four
days was 1,40,000 - a morale boosting for plastic industry. This time
China, Russia, Latin American countries were very well represented.
Boom in crude oil prices, in turn generation of fat profits by raw
material producers was being reflected in their lavishly decorated
stalls. The mood was upbeat. Commodity polymer prices were ranging
in the bracket of US $ 1100- 1200. Up to 2007 benchmark of US $ 1000
is expected. But one true fact that price rise is reluctantly accepted
by end user as other commodities prices such as steel, cement have
risen globally.
India at K-2004
The Indian participation was really impressive with 65 exhibitors
covering an area of 2700 sq. mtrs. By and large all Indian exhibitors
were extremely happy having received good enquiries and business -
with many making decision of doubling area in next K fair. Plastindia
was getting a lot of request even from visitors, emphasizing that
they would like to participate. Lohia Starlinger was the leading star
having raffia type line running machine and covering 450 sq. mtrs.
Reliance stall was hi-tech and it was a matter of pride to India.
Rajoo Engineers, Mamata Machineries, J.P. Industries and many others
were truly international. After 50 years of literature collecting
Indians, the Indian plastic industry made a real presence in the global
market."Look at India" message was well conveyed and "India
- Sourcing Base for Plastic" was initiated. Enthusiastic 3000
business visitors from India visited K by paying sn entry fee of daily
55 Euro (i.e. Rs. 3000) or 120 Euro for 3 days (i.e. Rs. 7000 approx),
trying their best to do business. Orbit Travels was managing over
800 visitors, SOTC was over 500 and AIPMA had 170 plus delegates and
the rest were in small groups of their own. This shows great interest
from Indian Plastic Industry. Leading visitors to K-2004 from India
were Mr. Nikhil Meswani ED-RIL, Mr. Ashok Goel, Essel Propack, Mr.
M.P. Taparia - Supreme, AIMPA, GSPMA, IPI, CIPET, IPF, OPPI, TAPMA,
A.P.P.M.A. Presidents and members were in full strength. To bolster
the trade and the moral of Indian exhibitors, Indian Ambassador to
Germany Shri T.C.A. Rangachari and EEPC, Resident Director Mr. V.K.
Duggal spent nearly 4 hours in K-2004, visiting Plastindia pavilion
and other major stalls.
