An Event You Cannot
Afford to Miss PLASTINDIA 2006
The Plastics Industry
Among the global top 5 in terms of production
and consumption of major commodities,
India offers a huge potential
for the packaging industry. With 60%
of the population (600 million) falling
in the working group of 15-44 yrs, its
per capita disposable income has increased
two fold to around US$ 470
over a period of two decades. This implies
a huge potential market for consumer
durables.
Packaging, infrastructure, agriculture,
consumer goods, healthcare and
the conservation of resources are the key
focus areas for growth of the Indian
Plastics Industry. Current low per capita
consumption of plastics (4 kg against
the world average of 20 kg and against
China’s 22 kg) opens new avenues and
opportunities for the increase in Indian
plastics consumption.
With a vast coastline of more than
6000 km, serviced by 11 major ports and
149 minor ports, India occupies a strategic
geographic location. It can serve
as a seaboard for commodities, value
added, speciality and niche products,
and a sourcing haven for OEMs and retail
chains.
The Indian Plastics Industry has
been growing at a phenomenal rate of
15% over the years and with its true
potential harnessed, it is all set to reach
the 12.5 MMT consumption mark, mak-
